JUDY ALVES (04.12.1946 – 24.08.2011)

Judy Alves

4 December 1946 – 24 August 2011

Judy was the lead vocalist for the Folk group, “Me & Them”. She was born in Lewes, Sussex, England and
emigrated to Rhodesia with the whole family in 1957.   She was educated at Mabelreign Girls’ High School in Salisbury and joined the band in the late sixties. Judy went on to win ‘Stairway to the Stars’ in 1969 which led to the release of their only single on the Panorama label, a cover of Rolf Harris’ “Two Little Boys” which got to No 8 on the Rhodesian Top Ten on 14 February 1970 and stayed in the charts for 8 weeks. The band went their separate ways not too long after that and Judy moved to Coleen Bawn with her husband.  Judy and her family then emigrated to South Africa in the mid 70’s and settled in Cape Town before moving around to various farms until finally settling in Price Alfred Hamlet. She passed away from cancer in Cape Town in 2011.
